Based in Montecito, California, decorator Penelope Bianchi is currently working on projects in both Montecito and Pasadena. Her eye for beauty and talent has fueled a successful career spanning over five decades. One of her favorite things in the world is her festivity crowns. Penny’s keen eye for aesthetics and immense knowledge make her an ideal judge.
Joost Bongaerts
Joost Bongaerts, Florabundance
The owner and president of Florabundance, Joost Bongaerts began his professional career in 1981, marketing fresh-cut flowers from Holland for The Dutch Flower Auctions & Exporters Organizations. From 1983 to 1991, Joost worked for several Dutch Flower Bulb Companies selling flower bulbs and perennial plants to specialty cut flower growers in The United States and Canada. In 1991 Joost and his wife Alexandra opened Bonfleur (Bongaerts Flowers), a European-style retail flower shop in New Canaan, CT, which they sold in 2002. During this time, Joost also imported flowers from Holland and was president of First American Florist, an online wholesale flower company. After doing business with Florabundance, Joost became a partner in the company in 2002 and took full ownership in 2008. Under his leadership, Florabundance has become one of the premier wholesalers in the United States.

Erika Carter
Erika Marie Carter’s paintings are rooted in her travels to Central Mexico over the past 20 years. Her grandparents immigrated from Central Mexico to the US circa 1915. Felix and Ester started and raised their family in Montecito, California, in a cozy stucco and red-tiled groundskeeper’s house of a prominent estate that Felix managed. Erika and her six siblings explored winding pathways and secret gardens filled with free-roaming chickens, rabbits and goats. The architecture, colors and texture of the two homes and the lush green and flowery walk that connects them have become the aesthetics imprinted on her imagination. These memories and the influence of Mexican Culture are expressed in her paintings rendered in acrylic on wood/tin.

Holly Heider Chapple has an endless passion and enthusiasm for all things flowers. She is a visionary in the industry, a trendsetter, a mentor, an influencer, a developer and an advocate for those with careers in floristry and farming. Holly is best known as the co-creator of the international network of florists and event designers known as The Chapel Designers. Her floral arrangements have made her an Instagram celebrity with more than 110,000 followers on her personal account.

The work of master photographer Dewey Nicks is a part of the compendium of American photography and culture. His adventures into commercials, documentaries and feature films have cemented his legacy as an American visual storyteller. His aspirational, cinematic and airy style has powered the success of too many brands to mention. Noted for his seamless blend of Mid-West innocence and California cool, his deft use of the international language of the photographic image allows his work to cross all oceans and borders effortlessly. His new book “Polaroids of Women” features a personal collection of one-of-a-kind Polaroids, each a jewel, dripping in light, color and his signature exuberance and authenticity.

Toine and Kandie Overgaag are the proud third-generation owners of family-run Westerlay Orchids. Based in beautiful Carpinteria, California, Westerlay Orchids is proud to serve as Southern California’s largest commercial orchid grower. The company annually distributes over three million orchids directly to customers and local and national supermarket chains, florists and designers. Westerlay Orchids is a pioneer in environmental and sustainability practices and regularly contributes to local schools, nonprofit organizations, and many other community causes.

Mindy Rice is the owner of Mindy Rice Floral and Event Design Inc. and has worked with clients around the globe to create singular events that never fail to impress. Her work has been featured in top magazines including Town and Country, Martha Stewart, Brides, Elegant Bride, C Magazine, Santa Barbara Magazine, Grace Ormonde, Flower, InStyle, Inside Weddings, Bride and Bloom Magazine People and The Knot. Mindy has also been selected by Harper’s to feature in BAZAAR Bride’s Little Black Book: The Top Wedding & Event Designers in the World for three straight years.

With a background in business and environmental design, Christina Rottman began her career as visual director for Valentino, creating complex window designs in Beverly Hills. As the founder and principal designer of Christina Rottman Designs, her love of high fashion and luxury translates into each vignette of every project she takes on, be it a private residence, boutique, or signature restaurant. An avid international traveler with Greek roots, Christina has an allure for the exotic, infusing a worldly romance into her work which blends effortless, chic, California lifestyle and cosmopolitan sensibilities with rich color and texture to give interiors purposeful, perpetual beauty. She is currently creating a debut product line (CRDetails) and planning her next adventure.
Alicia Schwede
Alicia Schwede, Flirty Fleurs
Alicia Schwede began her professional career at a computer software company in San Francisco, but her childhood love of flowers inspired by her grandmother drove her to take floral design classes at San Mateo College. Following a move to Denver, Colorado in 2002, she launched Bella Fiori in 2003, creating floral designs for weddings and events for the next decade. She then moved to Washington state, where she lives today and continues to design flowers for weddings and events in Washington state and beyond. Obsessed with flowers and the flower industry, she inspires florists and flower lovers everywhere with her blog, Flirty Fleurs. She is the author of “Bella Bouquets” and editor-in-chief of Flirty Fleurs Magazine.
